Trainee Solicitors Case Studies
Liz Madin
Training Contract Commenced: March 2007
Interview Date: July 2007
What first attracted you to applying for a Training Contract with Ashton Morton Slack?
I was already working at Ashton Morton Slack as a Legal Clerk before I applied for a Training Contract. I wanted to stay at the firm and progress my career, so it was a natural step for me to apply for a Training Contract.
What have been the highlights so far since starting your Training Contract?
Going to Birmingham for five weeks for a trial. It was a Fraud case and it was really good to see the end result, all the work that had been done for it was put into context and I felt like I had learnt a lot from it.
What are the best things about working for Ashton Morton Slack?
It's a very friendly place to work, the staff here are very nice. It's not so big that you get lost in a sea of people and there is always room to stop and ask advice about things.
Is there a particular area that you would like to progress in?
I have only done a seat in Business Crime so far, but I would like to return to the department in the future. We have a very good Fraud Department at Ashton Morton Slack, one of the only ones that deals with high cost cases in Sheffield. I have been very lucky to able to work with the Solicitors in the department who all have excellent reputations in what they do.
What would your advice be to anyone who wants to undertake a Training Contract with Ashton Morton Slack?
Take your time over the application form and if you do get an interview make sure that you prepare well for the interview. I had to do a presentation, it is worth spending a lot of time familiarising yourself with the topic so you can be ready to answer any questions.
