Writers cramp is a task-specific focal dystonia of the hand. Symptoms usually emerge when a person is trying to do a task that involves fine movements. Symptoms sometimes only occur whilst doing a particular type of movement, for example, writing. It is possible for the condition to spread to affect other tasks.
