Practical Advice
After an accident in a public place there are a number of things you should do as soon as possible.
For example:
- Take photographs at the scene of the accident, the defect that caused your accident (for example, a raised paving slab) and any warning signs.
- Take photographs of any visible injuries that the accident has caused.
- Take contact details of any witnesses to the accident.
- If appropriate, report the accident to the occupier of the premises where your accident occurred and complete an accident report form (retaining a copy for yourself).
- Hold onto any receipts for expenses that you have incurred as a result of the accident (for example, prescription charges) and receipts for any items that may have been damaged in the accident (for example, items of clothing).
