Putting wheels in motion for Children in Need

17 November 2008

Rotherham cyclist Dominic Hurley was in Meadowhall Shopping centre last Friday to support Children In Need. He completed 195 miles in 12 hours, which is the equivalent of cycling from Leeds to London.

Dominic who is sponsored by Sheffield Solicitors Ashton Morton Slack managed to raise £6000 for Children in Need on the night. Dominic's success was welcomed by Pudsey bear as shoppers at Meadowhall crowded to applaud the end to his cycling feat.

Dominic has gone through an incredible journey over the last 14 years. In 1994 he sustained a severe brain injury and was once told he may never walk or talk again. Through great determination and fantastic support, Dominic went through years of rehabilitation and gained a passion for cycling.

It was during a previous Bikathon that Dominic was spotted by a GB Paralympics cycling team and is now looking to make the 2012 Paralympics team.

Dominic Hurley spoke at the event in Meadowhall "cycling for 12 hours was extremely difficult and tiring but hearing the news of how much I had raised for Children In Need makes everything worthwhile and the support on the day was nothing short of amazing"

Ben Gent, Partner of the Ashton Morton Slack added "Dominic's achievements this year have been unbelievable and we are proud of how he has contributed to Children In Need. He is a real inspiration and a credit to our region and community"

The last few months have been busy for Dominic having already received recognition at the 2008 Rotherham Sports awards and at the National Fitness First awards.
