Toxic sofa scare reaches Runcorn
4 July 2008
The ever increasing health scare over toxic sofas reached Runcorn today as resident Jill Darbyshire sought legal advice after a sudden and pain skin reaction.
In February 2008 local Runcorn resident Jill Darbyshire purchased 2 sofas from Walmsleys. Over the next 4 - 6 weeks Mrs Darbyshire began to develop a rash all over her back and down the back of her legs which cause great discomfort and distress.Without knowing the cause Mrs Darbyshire proceeded to visit her GP who in turn prescribed several different lotions and anti-histamines. Unfortunately these were tried with no success. Mrs Darbyshire was then referred to St Helens Hospital to see a dermatologist who was aware of certain leather sofas causing severe skin problems. Further lotions have been tried by Mrs Darbyshire and the areas of the reaction are starting to heal.
It was an unpleasant surprise for Mrs Darbyshire to hear that the cause of this painful reaction came from her sofa. "I started to develop the severe rash a month or so after I bought the sofa, the pain and itching led to great discomfit. I could not think of what it could be so I went to my GP who prescribed a couple of lotions and anti histamines. When these didn't work I really started to panic but once the dermatologist informed me that certain sofas are carrying a type of fungicide I was shocked but relieved to find the source of the problem".
Following this Mrs Darbyshire sort legal advice from legal specialist Andrew Oxley of Ashton Morton Slack "Mrs Darbyshire is yet another person to suffer from the defective Sofas. We are in the process of the claim and advising her about her injuries and compensation. The public need to be aware of the problem that this fungicide can cause".
