The event was well organised and ran smoothly despite the pouring rain at times. The Ceremony was well attended and featured poignant speeches from high profile individuals including Councillor Dunworth, the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, who opened the ceremony. In addition there were addresses by members of Sheffield and Rotherham Asbestos Group (SARAG), National Association of School Masters and Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) and TUC General Council, amongst others.

Simon Allen of Ashton Morton Slack attended the Memorial, he said "It is important that we remember people who have been injured or lost their lives or loved ones at work.  My hope is that this event will also highlight the need for businesses to provide greater safety for employees, to prevent tragedies like this occurring in the future"
