Continuing the fight for justice for sufferers of pleural plaques
8 August 2008
Further moves are afoot in the fight for justice for sufferers of the asbestos related condition, pleural plaques. This comes further to the House of Lords' ruling last year, that sufferers of the condition are not entitled to claim compensation, despite the mental anguish that this condition can cause.
The Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT) have organised a protest against the current legal position to be held on Friday 29th August. This will commence at 11am in Albion Place, Leeds, where leaflets will be handed out to the general public to raise awareness about the need to restore the right to compensation for sufferers of this condition.
Simon Allen of the Occupational Disease Team at Ashton Morton Slack commented "We are glad to see that despite the very disappointing ruling last year, people affected by this remain resolute to ensure that their voices are heard by the Government. This is now even more vital given that moves are been taken to rectify the situation in Scotland and therefore we are keen to see that a postcode lottery system does not occur as a result".
